A concept phone for people who miss typing on real keys.
I made the dmobile Companion as a rethinking of the regular glass sandwich phone of today built around a physical keyboard. it is meant to lean in to the nostalgia of the early years of smartphones where they had more personality and, more often than not, a keyboard.
This entire animation was made as a challenge for myself, to see if I could make an entire animation by only relying on FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) and I am happy to say I was (mostly) successful, I used Inkscape for the keyboad layout, Gimp for the photo editing and Blender for everything else from modeling to rendering, all done on Linux. The only non FOSS software I used was PhotoPea, a web based photo editor that was used for the Mockups.
The result is a complete workflow that shows you don’t need expensive software to make an idea a reality.
First time for everything!
This project is the first time I imagined a full campaign with billboards, rather than just a video. I leveraged the features absent in modern smartphones, like a headphone jack, Keyboard and various colours as a selling point.
